will S25 ultra get a powerful upgrade?

Samsung's Galaxy S25 Ultra is tipped to deliver strong upgrades over the Galaxy S24 Ultra

With just a few days left until Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event, fresh leaks are surfacing—this time focusing on the flagship Galaxy S25 Ultra model and its enhanced camera capabilities.

January 16 update below: Recent leaks have unveiled official Samsung promotional material that confirms new AI features and improved camera specifications.

While the expected upgrades to camera hardware specs may be modest, a recent report from well-known Samsung leaker Ahmed Qwaider suggests that the Galaxy S25 Ultra will offer significant enhancements in both photo and video quality.

High resolution but less noise, better video result

The report doesn’t detail how Samsung plans to enhance its video capabilities. However, earlier leaks suggest that we can expect better nighttime video performance, attributed to Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and higher-resolution ultra-wide video.

4x better clarity, batter Macro mode, ultra-wide camera

This enhancement likely stems from the recently revealed 50-megapixel upgrade for the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s ultra-wide-angle camera. This new sensor is expected to provide four times the resolution compared to the 12-megapixel version found on the S24 Ultra.

AI audio filter

This impressive feature, initially introduced with Google's Pixel 8 series, may soon be available on Samsung Galaxy devices. Renowned tipster Ice Universe has already shared details on the Chinese microblogging site Weibo, indicating that Audio Eraser is set to be included in One UI 7. This suggests that it won't be exclusive to the S25 series, especially since the leaker has also posted a screenshot of the feature on a current-generation smartphone.

Log video for professional workflows

Log video captures a wider dynamic range compared to standard 8-bit recordings, providing greater flexibility for editing and color grading after filming. Currently, Apple’s iPhone lineup supports this feature in ProRes RAW mode, while Android users must rely on third-party apps like Mcpro24fps or MotionCam Pro to shoot in log mode.

Camera switching during video recording.

The Galaxy S24 series already allows for some seamless camera switching, but the report doesn’t specify how the Galaxy S25 Ultra might enhance this feature. Currently, the implementation has its flaws. Samsung is expected to leverage the Snapdragon 8 Elite’s upgraded image signal processor to improve image quality and ensure smoother transitions between lenses during video recordings.

In addition to what seem to be slight upgrades in camera hardware, the Snapdragon 8 Elite will handle much of the work needed to deliver notable advancements in AI, features, camera quality, and overall performance for the Galaxy S25 lineup. This boost in processing power, paired with Samsung’s new One UI 7 firmware, promises an exciting launch later this month.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is set to be unveiled in just a few days at Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event, which is confirmed for January 22 at 6 PM.
